Out of Area Registration Policy
Registration for patients aged 18 and over
Thank you for your application to become an Out of area patient at our Practice. Out of area registration is voluntary for GP practices.
It is designed to give people greater choice but it would usually be expected that a patient has a reason why it is practical for them to attend this practice, e.g. it is close to their place of work.
This type of registration is not suitable for those with health or social problems that are likely to require home visits by a GP.
If accepted you will attend the Practice and receive the full range of services provided as normal at the surgery.
If you have an urgent care need you should contact the Practice in the first instance but if we determine you need help at home we would ask you to call NHS 111, who would direct you to the local service that has been established by NHS England for patients such as you.
This may be a local GP Practice, local Walk-In or Urgent Care Centre, A and E or Minor Injuries Unit.
This local service would decide if you could attend for an urgent appointment with a healthcare professional or would require a home visit depending on individual circumstances.
Out of Hours, NHS 111 will direct you to your local Out of Hours provider.
Our Practice is not responsible for finding appropriate access to healthcare in these circumstances.
If your healthcare needs change we may need to review your registration and if it seems more appropriate for you to be registered with a practice closer to home we would require you to re-register elsewhere. Such instances may include:
- You develop a complex or long term illness
- You become pregnant
- You are needing care at home
This list is not exhaustive but it is important to understand that we may require you to re-register elsewhere at some time in the future and this decision would be solely at our discretion.
- Note that as the practice is close to capacity, the only Out of Area patients that we will consider are those that have been patients with the practice and have now moved out of our boundary but still have a very good reason to remain as a patient here.
- This will normally be because they still work very close to the practice.
- We will not consider any new patients here who wish to register as an Out of Area patient
