Child Health

The GPs, Practice Nurses and Health Visitors are all involved in the education, promotion and support of child health.

We have a weekly Child Health drop in Clinic and parents are encouraged to attend for baby weighing, immunisations, Health Visitor consultations and advice. It runs from 10am – 12pm every Monday.

Baby Check

If your baby is born at home or if your baby is born in hospital, but does not have the baby check before being discharged, then one of the GPs will make a home visit to carry out the first check. The Midwives often inform us when these home checks are necessary, but we do advise that the parent(s) telephone us to request this visit as well.

Six Week Check

This is done by the GP at the same appointment as the mother’s post-natal check.

Immunisations

A schedule for childhood immunisations has been drawn up by the Department of Health. Our Health Visitors and Practice Nurses are trained to advise on this schedule and the immunisations themselves. The Practice Nurses administer the immunisations and record them in the child’s “red book”.

Child immunisations can be booked anytime during Practice Nurse surgeries.
